20 Months 8 Suicides
After six officers died by suicide in the past six months, with eight officers in 20 months, the problem could not be dismissed anymore. Fox 29 News in San Antonio helps to give a voice to officers and their families. The Public Safety Advisory Board called a meeting and questioned what the mental health protocol is for the police and fire departments. First H.E.L.P.’s tracking of first responder suicides is helping to show change is needed.
What Next
According to Mike, this is the start of a change that will occur sooner than later. The Public Safety Advisory Board has plans to reconvene after allowing the Fire and Police Departments to put a strategic plan in place.
