Course Description

The families of first responders often seek to find balance between home and the job, which is challenged by the nature of the work.  This course will focus on ensuring families understand how first responder culture may affect their loved one, help them identify resources available, and assist with developing a readiness plan for the family.  

PREPARATION

Objective 1: Differentiate first responder cultures from the culture of other professions. 

Objective 2:  Differentiate between two types of stress and recognize the effects of stress on physical and mental performance. 

PARTNERSHIP

Objective 3:  Identify at least five resources available to first responders and family members of your organization can turn to for help. 

PREVENTION

Objective 4: Cultivate individual and family resilience by applying five Resilience Skills on a regular basis. 

Objective 5: Develop a family readiness plan.
