Pulling Back the Curtain: Examining Better Metrics on Law Enforcement Officer Deaths by Suicide First H.E.L.P. has compiled data on over 1,100 law enforcement officer deaths by suicide, including 160 in 2022. The CNA Corporation conducted rigorous analyses of First H.E.L.P.’s data, resulting in the first comprehensive national study of law enforcement officer deaths by suicide. This presentation unveils the characteristics of officers who died by suicide and introduces national suicide rates, a metric never before calculated for the law enforcement sector. Differences in these rates by year, state, gender, and other industries are discussed.
